Phu Quoc to have new international airport

The construction of a new international airport will begin in Duong To commune, the island district of Phu Quoc, Kien Giang province, said a provincial tourism official.

Le Minh Hoang, director of Kien Giang Tourism Department, said the airport would be built on an area of 800 hectares, which can meet the demands of 2.5 million passengers a year.

The construction of the airport is estimated at VND 2,500 billion and it is expected to operate in 2009.

VND 7 billion will also be spent on upgrading Rach Gia airfield in the province in 2006, according to the department.

The province is also to begin the construction of a seaport for international cruise ships in Dat Do bay, An Thoi town of Phu Quoc district. Bai Vong port will be put into operation next January.
